More Kitchen Printables

UPDATE 9/10/13: I've had many write me here lately that they were not able to get into Scribd to download my printables without paying for membership. I have changed from Scribd to Google Docs for an easier download process =) Thank you for stopping by and enjoy!

I also made this trio with my other batch of kitchen printables from earlier. I think they’d look nice in some white frames up on top of our cabinets! Just click on the picture to download.

I had originally made these gray ones because I’ve been on a gray kick and pair them with a bright, eye popping frames but then I stepped out of the box and made these…

Patriotic wreath

I made my door a pretty wreath this weekend! I say this shamefaced but I still had my Easter egg wreath up. Yeap, my door needed a summer face lift. I got my inspiration from A Night Owl Blog who had the cutest tulle wreath. As I was thinking about buying the supplies, I realized that I had the white tulle, a whole roll of it, and the blue and red fabric with stars on it I've had for years that my Granny gave me! The mission was on =)

Supplies: Wreath form, fabric, tulle, rotary cutter or scissors

I just eyeballed my strips of fabric and cut them about 6 inches long and about 2-3 inches wide. I tied the strips around the wreath and alternated my fabric and tulle.

Finished piece! Looks so much better in natural light! =) I'm satisfied with it. I think I need to raise it up a tad to be centered in the window but that just might be me and my weirdness, lol

Super simple maxi dress to skirt

So before I get bombarded with “Why?!?!?” lol, I refashioned the ever popular maxi dresses I had because they were from about 4 years ago and very very small. Which is kind of depressing that I’ve gained so much weight =/ But now I have four new skirts so I’m a happy overweighter, lol.
Okay, this is one of the dresses before. Pretty, right? The top is spaghetti strap and just not as conservative as I would like it to be. This one was actually my size though but I just wanted something new to wear =)
maxi_dress1
I cut just below the smocking.
maxi_dress2
Once cut, I pinned so the fabric and lining would stay together. I then stretched it flat…
maxi_dress3
…so I could cut a straight cut. Cutting right below the smocking and pleats made a jagged, curved cut so I wanted to straighten it out.
maxi_dress4
maxi_dress5
Dragged out my elastic! (The yellow and brown floral to the right is another of the dresses =)
maxi_dress6
Started sewing a casing along the top waistband.
maxi_dress7
I noticed I made a mistake =( I should have done a rolled hem up top FIRST, then started my casing. If you do not, you’ll have an unraveled mess after the first wash! I was about ready to go to bed so what I ended up doing was sewing a zigzag stitch along the bottom of the raw edge and to top it off, I doused the raw edge in hem fray stuff. This might not hold up for long so I’ll probably end up seam ripping and redoing it if it starts looking too frazzled, but for now, it worked =)
maxi_dress8
Green dress I was also working on.
maxi_dress9
That’s my happy skirt face and trying to take a quick pic for my blog before everyone comes into work, lol.
maxi_dress
My two ‘after’ pics I remembered to get! I now can add these two pretties to my wardrobe as well as the brown and yellow floral and a turquoise one I forgot to get a picture of completely.
maxi_dress10
Four new skirts + having everything on hand = FREE to ME! Woot woot!
Have a great weekend, everyone!
Afterthought: I apologize for the quality of the sewing pictures. Just couldn’t get them right and my craft shed has a horrible industrial fluorescent light.

Fingerprint Friday

There is a song by Steven Curtis Chapman that says:
I can see the fingerprints of god
When I look at you
I can see the fingerprints of god
And I know its true
You're a masterpiece
That all creation quietly applauds
And you're covered with the fingerprints of god

So look around you and see where YOU can see God's fingerprints. Is it in nature? Kids? Animals? Where do you see them?

You see the fingerprints of God in everything! Everywhere! This week I seen them not only on my beloved family but the fruits that we bear or in this case, the peppers and taters =)

Here’s my KennaBoo checking out the potatoes!

Kitchen Table Dreaming

I’ve said before that we are hopefully moving before the year is up. We are buying Mr. LCH’s cousin’s house but they're still living in it until their new house gets built. We were hoping to get in it before Kenna’s birthday in September. Don’t see that happening =( They’ve cleared the land for it but haven’t started anything else (UPDATE AS OF YESTERDAY: Scheduled start day of construction is in three weeks!!! Yayyy!).

Until then, I’ve been thinking, pinning, idea running, etc. We pretty much have everything to furnish the house with the exception of a kitchen table/chairs and end tables for the living room.

I have come to the conclusion (after looking at countless blogland kitchen makeovers) that I want to do most of the work in the kitchen—paint cabinets, change hardware, add some subway tile, cool light fixtures, some open shelving, blah, blah, but FIRST, we’ll need a kitchen table! After seeing this pretty thing I call ‘Beauty,’ I fell in love with the idea of a creative kitchen table!

In the new house, I want brighter but still display my rustic, antique finds. So does that mean I’m going for more of an eclectic taste?

Anywho, after meeting ‘Beauty,’ I quickly discovered some of her relatives! (I know know why genealogists get so excited, hehe. I understand now, Uncle Tom). So, I’m going to share my excitement and please tell me your favorite if you want to chime in!

I also have seen somewhere a plain, simple table and they found different thrifted chairs but painted them all the same eye-popping color and loved that. Can’t find where I seen it though =/ I hate when I do that!

It’s time to stop neglecting the outdoors!

The title is self-explanatory, isn’t it, lol? I’m always working inside, trying to improve things, making nifty little crafts and do not even think about the outside until I’m driving up the driveway shaking my head, lol. Now now, it’s not that bad, we’re not overgrown with weeds but I need to rake some leaves for sure. For the last three summers, I’ve had big plans of making flowers beds complete with mulch and flowers. Nope, no such luck. So without further ado, this summer I have the same expectations! I WILL work on the outside! For real. I promise Winking smile

We’re actually moving soon…well, hopefully by the end of the year, so I have been thinking hard about what color door I want! These are the important priorities, ya know!

Okay, I know, I know, enough with the picture overload. I was on a roll though, lol. It’s amazing how you collect all these ideas and feel like you have accomplished something…but you really haven’t.

Well, until next time =) I have a couple more sewing projects coming soon!
